ESM Compliance

Essential Safety Measures are the fire and life safety systems installed or constructed in a building to ensure adequate levels of safety for occupants in the event of a fire or emergency.

Essential Safety Measures include all the traditional building fire services such as sprinklers and mechanical services, but also include passive fire safety such as fire doors, fire-rated structures and other building infrastructure items such as paths of travel to exits.

Building owners are responsible for the maintenance of ESMs and building occupants are responsible for the maintenance of exits and paths of travel. Non-compliance with these obligations may result in infringement notices, prosecution or significant fines and could place the building occupants and the community at risk.

ESM Melbourne inspect, test and maintain ESMs in order for them to fulfil their purpose, providing owners and occupants peace of mind, always. These include;

  • Annual Essential Safety Measures Reports (AESMR)

  • Maintaining building maintenance schedules

  • Maintenance & repairs of all ESMs

  • Passive inspections

  • Means of egress

  • Fire fighting services & equipment

  • Exit & emergency lighting

  • Mechanical ventilation systems
